A truck transporting more than 400,000 KitKat bars, part of a special Formula One-themed lineup shaped like race cars, vanished while en route from Italy to Poland.
Although no injuries were reported, the bold theft stunned Europe’s confectionery supply chain. Parent company Nestlé quickly coordinated with authorities, while consumers worried about possible Easter shortages.
The incident, involving nearly 12 tons of KitKat chocolate, occurred just days before Easter. The truck left a factory in Italy on March 26 but never reached its destination, and both the vehicle and its cargo remain missing.
Nestlé is now working with law enforcement and logistics partners to recover the stolen shipment. Officials have warned that the chocolates may surface in unofficial markets, though batch codes on each bar could help trace them.
With Easter approaching, concerns are rising as authorities continue to investigate what is being called one of Europe’s biggest chocolate heists.
KitKat remains one of the world’s most popular chocolate brands, recognized for its iconic “Have a break, have a KitKat” slogan. Sold in over 85 countries with billions of bars annually, it plays a key role in Nestlé’s confectionery business—making this large-scale theft particularly impactful for both consumers and the company.
