Saudia has announced that flights to and from several regional and international cities will remain suspended due to ongoing developments in the region. In a statement released on 2 March, the airline confirmed that services to Amman, Kuwait City, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Doha, Bahrain, Moscow, and Peshawar are cancelled until 4 March at 23:59 GMT. The carrier said it is directly informing affected passengers and has urged all travelers to verify their flight status before heading to the airport to avoid inconvenience.
The airline reiterated that passenger and crew safety remains its top priority, noting that operational decisions are being taken in response to the evolving security situation. Saudia added that it will continue to monitor events closely and provide further updates as necessary.
The announcement follows heightened tensions in the region after the U.S. Embassy in Riyadh was reportedly struck by two drones, causing a small fire and limited structural damage. According to Saudi Arabia’s defence ministry, the incident resulted in minor material impact based on preliminary findings. Witnesses reported hearing a loud explosion early Tuesday morning, and flames were seen at the embassy compound, though the fire was described as contained and not extensive.
The drone strike occurred amid continued Iranian missile and drone activity targeting Gulf states that host U.S. military bases. These developments followed recent U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iran, intensifying regional instability. Black smoke was observed rising over Riyadh’s Diplomatic Quarter, an area that houses numerous foreign embassies and diplomatic missions, further underscoring the seriousness of the situation.
