Punjab Announces Price Cuts on Ghee and Cooking Oil for Ramadan

Consumers in Punjab will benefit from a price reduction of Rs10 to Rs16 per kilogram or liter on ghee and cooking oil during the holy month of Ramadan. The move comes as part of government efforts to ease the financial burden on households and ensure availability of essential food items.

The announcement was made by Special Assistant to the Chief Minister Salma Butt following a meeting with representatives of the Pakistan Ghee Mills Association. Punjab Food Authority Director General Asim Javaid also attended the discussion and highlighted ongoing efforts to maintain product quality across the province.

Salma Butt confirmed that the discount will apply to all one-kilogram and one-liter packs of ghee and cooking oil throughout Ramadan. She noted that if international palm oil prices decline further, additional price reductions may be considered in coordination with industry stakeholders, ensuring consumers continue to benefit from more affordable cooking essentials.

The government has also requested recommendations to enhance the quality of ghee and cooking oil in the market. Director General Asim Javaid emphasized the use of modern, cost-effective methods to reduce trans fatty acids and said testing and quality control measures are being upgraded to meet international standards.

Authorities have warned manufacturers and retailers that strict action will be taken against the sale of substandard products. Meanwhile, representatives from the ghee mills assured officials that there will be sufficient supply of quality products during the Ramadan period to meet public demand.
