Qatar has eased its medical licensing process for Pakistani doctors and surgeons by formally recognizing Fellowships awarded by the College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan. The decision is expected to open new professional opportunities for qualified Pakistani medical professionals seeking employment in the Gulf state.
The development was confirmed by the Pakistani Embassy in Qatar, which stated that Qatari authorities have approved both the First Fellowship and Second Fellowship qualifications awarded by CPSP. This recognition follows a detailed evaluation of CPSP’s academic framework, training standards, and professional competency requirements.
According to the approved criteria, doctors applying in Qatar on the basis of a Second Fellowship must have already completed the relevant First Fellowship in their primary specialty. This requirement ensures that applicants possess comprehensive and structured clinical training before entering the Qatari healthcare system.
Qatari regulators granted recognition after assessing the quality, duration, and outcomes of CPSP training programs. Officials reviewed the curriculum, examination process, and clinical exposure of fellows, concluding that CPSP qualifications meet international medical education and practice standards.
A key benefit of this decision is that CPSP fellows will no longer be required to clear the Prometric examination. This change is expected to significantly reduce procedural hurdles, shorten licensing timelines, and lower costs for Pakistani doctors seeking registration in Qatar.
Officials from both sides said the move will expand job prospects for experienced Pakistani doctors and surgeons while strengthening bilateral cooperation in healthcare. The decision also reflects growing trust in Pakistan’s medical education system and reinforces professional ties between Pakistan and Qatar.
