Punjab PhD Professors Question Long Delay in BPS-19 and BPS-20 Hiring

Public college teachers in Punjab have raised serious concerns over delays in promotions and recruitment for senior teaching posts. Many PhD professors say the issue has badly affected their professional growth and future career plans.

According to faculty members, reserved quota seats for direct induction in BPS-19 and BPS-20 have not been advertised for several years. These appointments are usually made through the Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC). Teachers claim the delay has continued for nearly a decade.

Many PhD professors said they completed higher education and research programs with hopes of securing better positions. Several lecturers and associate professors earned PhD and post-doctoral qualifications under the existing service rules. However, they are still waiting for promotion opportunities.

Teachers said the long delay has created frustration in the education sector. Some faculty members added that they have remained in the same grades for years despite strong academic records and teaching experience.

Senior educators warned that many experienced teachers may retire before reaching higher positions. They believe the current situation is also discouraging younger teachers from pursuing advanced research degrees. According to education circles, the lack of career growth could negatively impact the quality of higher education in public colleges.

The affected PhD professors have asked the Punjab government to take immediate action. They have demanded relief measures and fair promotion opportunities for teachers who completed long years of service after earning their PhD degrees.

Education experts also suggested that the government should review existing recruitment and promotion policies. They believe timely appointments can improve morale among teachers and strengthen the education system.

Meanwhile, Punjab Minister for School and Higher Education Rana Sikandar Hayat said recruitment in the education sector would continue on merit and with transparency. He assured that appointments would follow clear rules and fair procedures.
