Punjab Launches English Learning Initiative for Schools

The Government of Punjab has approved a major education project aimed at improving English language learning in government schools across the province, with authorities allocating Rs. 500 million for the initiative.

According to officials, the responsibility for implementing the program has been assigned to the Punjab Education, Curriculum, Training and Assessment Authority, commonly known as PECTA. The authority will oversee training, curriculum support, and monitoring activities under the new project.

The initiative is primarily focused on improving the standard of English teaching in classrooms by providing specialized professional training to teachers working in government schools throughout Punjab. Authorities believe better teacher preparation will help students strengthen their communication and comprehension abilities.

Officials stated that the project will place particular emphasis on improving students’ speaking and reading skills, which are often considered weak areas in public sector schools. The government hopes the program will help students compete more effectively in higher education and professional environments.

As part of the reforms, modern learning materials and digital teaching models will also be introduced in classrooms. Education officials said the use of updated educational technology and interactive methods would support more effective and engaging English language learning for students.

The program will be implemented in phases across government schools in Punjab. Authorities further stated that the government plans to strengthen monitoring and assessment systems to ensure proper implementation and measure improvements in educational standards under the initiative.
