Punjab Sports Board has announced plans to expand its network of sports academies across the province, increasing the total number of academies to 18. The newly established facilities are expected to start operations during the first week of June 2026.
According to officials, the academies will offer free sports training to more than 2,000 boys and girls in different sports disciplines throughout Punjab. Authorities confirmed that athletes joining the academies will not be required to pay any training fees.
Director-General Sports Tariq Qureshi said the main purpose of the initiative is to identify and develop sports talent at the grassroots level while preparing a stronger future generation of athletes for national and international competitions.
He further stated that all players enrolled in the sports academies will also receive free sports kits to support their training and participation.
Tariq Qureshi explained that the Punjab Sports Board is planning additional support programs for talented athletes, including scholarships and welfare initiatives. These measures are intended to help promising players continue their training, improve their performance, and achieve higher standards in their respective sports.
Officials said the expansion project is part of the government’s broader efforts to improve sports infrastructure and create more opportunities for young people across Punjab.
The initiative also aims to encourage youth participation in healthy, positive, and competitive activities while promoting sports culture throughout the province.
Authorities believe the free sports academies will provide equal opportunities to talented boys and girls from different backgrounds who may not otherwise have access to professional sports training facilities.
The Punjab Sports Board hopes the project will help discover new athletes capable of representing the province and Pakistan in future national and international sporting events.
