Peshawar Becomes Most Polluted City in the World, Surpasses Lahore and Karachi

In a surprising environmental development, Peshawar has now outpaced both Lahore and Karachi, claiming the title of the world’s most polluted city.

As smog blankets various regions of Pakistan, Peshawar’s air quality has reached concerning levels.

This morning, the city’s Air Quality Index (AQI) skyrocketed to an alarming 324, placing it at the forefront of global pollution rankings.

Formerly recognized for its elevated pollution levels, Lahore now trails as the second most-polluted city globally, boasting an AQI of 269.

Some areas in the capital of Punjab have experienced even more severe conditions, with AQI levels occasionally peaking at a worrisome 400.

As of 4 PM today, the situation remains critical, with Peshawar’s AQI at 223, securing its position as the most polluted city in Pakistan. Rawalpindi and Lahore closely follow, with AQI values of 172 and 165, respectively.

These numbers are continuously updated to reflect the fluctuating nature of air quality.

The Pakistan Engineering Services area in Lahore has been significantly impacted, registering an AQI of 403. Other areas such as Brevzon and The Mall have also reported dangerously high AQI levels, reaching 397 and 388, respectively.

This surge in pollution levels in Peshawar and other cities underscores the urgent necessity for environmental interventions.

The government and relevant authorities are urged to take immediate action to address this smog crisis, highlighting the critical importance of public awareness and proactive measures to safeguard the health of citizens and the environment.
