PCB Adds Imran Khan to Video Amid Backlash

Share

After facing criticism for omitting Imran Khan from a video celebrating Pakistan’s cricket achievements, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has released an updated version of the video that includes clips of the 1992 World Cup-winning captain.

The original video, released on August 14, received backlash for leaving out Imran Khan’s contributions to Pakistani cricket. In response, the PCB stated that the original video had to be shortened due to time constraints, resulting in the omission of significant clips.

The updated version of the video now includes four parts: Imran Khan’s contributions and lifting the 1992 World Cup trophy as captain, Misbah-ul-Haq’s Test mace victory, the Women’s team’s victory at the Asia Cup, and Nida Dar’s achievement of taking 100 wickets.

The PCB clarified that this new version is the “complete” and “original” one, rectifying the omission of important clips. The video is part of a promotional campaign leading up to the Cricket World Cup 2023.

Former cricketer and member of the 1992 World Cup-winning campaign, Wasim Akram, has criticized the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for excluding Imran Khan from a video celebrating Pakistan’s cricket history. Akram expressed his shock and disappointment at the omission, especially considering Imran Khan’s iconic status in world cricket and his contributions to developing Pakistani cricket during his time as a player and captain.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Akram called for the PCB to delete the video and issue an apology. He emphasized that political differences aside, Imran Khan’s impact on cricket and Pakistan’s cricketing journey cannot be denied. Imran Khan played a pivotal role in guiding Pakistan to victory in the 1992 Cricket World Cup and is widely regarded as one of the greatest cricketers and captains in the history of the sport.

Imran Khan later transitioned into politics, founding the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and serving as the Prime Minister of Pakistan from 2018 to 2022. His diverse legacy encompasses both his cricketing achievements and his contributions to national politics.
