Iran has offered to mediate between Pakistan and India to help ease rising tensions, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi announced on Saturday.

Posting on his official social media account, Araghchi stated, “We are willing to mediate to help lower tensions between Pakistan and India.”

Highlighting Iran’s strong relations with both nations, he said Tehran could help foster dialogue during this sensitive period.

So far, neither Pakistan nor India has officially responded to the offer.

The proposal follows Araghchi’s separate phone calls with his Pakistani and Indian counterparts after the deadly attack in Pahalgam, located in Indian Illegally Occupied Kashmir (IIOK).

During the conversations, the Iranian foreign minister urged both sides to show restraint and prioritise de-escalation.

The Pahalgam incident — a shooting by unidentified gunmen — left 26 tourists dead and several others injured.

India subsequently accused Pakistan of involvement, a charge Pakistan firmly denied, while New Delhi also announced the suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty.
