Jamaat-e-Islami chief Hafiz Naeem has warned the government over permission for a planned rally at Liaquat Bagh.
He said his party could hold sit-ins in Islamabad and Rawalpindi if permission is not granted.
Hafiz Naeem made the remarks while speaking to the media in Lahore.
He called on the government to address public concerns about taxes and electricity prices.
Hafiz Naeem Criticises Tax Policies
Hafiz Naeem said the government should focus on expanding the tax base.
He argued that authorities should collect taxes from people and groups currently outside the tax system.
He opposed putting additional financial pressure on existing taxpayers.
According to him, ordinary citizens are already facing significant economic difficulties.
The Jamaat-e-Islami chief also criticised political leaders who have remained influential for decades.
He said many of the same leaders have been in power for around 40 to 50 years.
Meanwhile, ordinary people continue to face increasing financial pressure, he added.
Hafiz Naeem said the government needs to consider the difficulties faced by common citizens.
Concerns Over Electricity Load Shedding
The Jamaat-e-Islami leader also raised concerns about ongoing electricity load shedding.
He questioned why consumers were still facing power cuts despite high electricity bills.
He pointed out that electricity bills include several different taxes and charges.
According to Hafiz Naeem, consumers are already paying substantial amounts for electricity.
He questioned the justification for continuing power cuts under these circumstances.
He also called on the prime minister to explain the situation.
The JI chief wants the government to clarify why consumers face outages despite paying heavy electricity charges.
Warning Over Liaquat Bagh Rally
The main warning from Hafiz Naeem concerned the proposed rally at Liaquat Bagh.
He said the government should allow his party to hold the event.
If permission is denied, he warned of a wider protest campaign.
The party could stage sit-ins in both Islamabad and Rawalpindi.
The warning indicates that the dispute could expand beyond the planned rally.
Jamaat-e-Islami is seeking permission to hold its political gathering at Liaquat Bagh.
