Muharram 2023: Two-Day Holidays Announced on 28th and 29th July in Pakistan

The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee has announced that the crescent for the month of Muharram was not sighted yesterday. Consequently, the significant day of Youm-e-Ashur, which falls on the 10th of Muharram, will be observed on Saturday, July 29 throughout the country.

Muharram holds great historical and religious importance for Muslims worldwide as it marks the beginning of the Islamic lunar calendar, with the commencement of the Hijri year 1445.

During this period, Muslims reflect on the martyrdom of Imam Hussain (RA), the beloved grandson of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), at the Battle of Karbala, and a sense of solemnity prevails.

To facilitate religious observances and processions across the nation, it is likely that the government will declare two holidays on July 28 and 29 (Friday and Saturday) for the 9th and 10th of Muharram.

The meeting included esteemed members from the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, representatives from the Ministry of Religious Affairs, the Department of Meteorology, SUPARCO, and officials from the Ministry of Science and Technology.

At the same time, provincial and district moon sighting committees gathered at their respective headquarters to confirm the sighting of the crescent marking the beginning of Muharram.
