Hold onto your seats, Bollywood fans—Bilal Lashari’s 2022 blockbuster The Legend of Maula Jatt is set to make a grand entrance into Indian theatres this September. After much anticipation and fanfare, India Today reports that the film is finally gearing up for its debut across the border.

Sources suggest that Zee Studios may be the one to bring this cinematic sensation to Indian screens. Despite some resistance from far-right groups and the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS), the film is poised to overcome these hurdles and reach its audience in India.

The Legend of Maula Jatt—a massive hit in Pakistan—features a star-studded cast including Fawad Khan, Mahira Khan, Hamza Ali Abbasi, and Humaima Malick. It has been a long time since a Pakistani film was shown in India, with the last being Bol in 2011. But it seems that the wait is finally coming to an end.

The film had already made waves as the highest-grossing Punjabi film of all time at the global box office within weeks of its release. It also holds records as the highest-grossing Pakistani film, the second-highest-grossing film in the UK for 2022, and the most-watched South Asian film in Norway.

Released in 25 territories with over 500 screens, The Legend of Maula Jatt has become one of Pakistan’s biggest releases. Its phenomenal success has led to full house screenings and long queues outside cinemas worldwide, with additional screenings continuously being scheduled to meet the high demand.

A reboot of Yunus Malik’s 1979 cult classic Maula Jutt, the film reimagines the iconic rivalry between Maula Jatt and Noori Natt. Directed by Lashari, the film also stars Mirza Gohar Rasheed, Faris Shafi, Ali Azmat, Nayyer Ejaz, Shafqat Cheema, Raheela Agha, Zia Khan, and Saima Baloch.
