Traffic police on Sunday launched a citywide crackdown against underage and unlicensed drivers, announcing strict enforcement of traffic regulations under the Lahore traffic police crackdown campaign.
According to Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Syed Abdul Rahim Shirazi, vehicles and motorcycles being driven by underage motorists will be immediately impounded and shifted to police stations. Challans will also be issued against all violators as part of the ongoing enforcement drive.
He further stated that strict fines will be imposed on individuals using learner permits incorrectly or driving with expired licenses. Under these rules, car drivers will be fined Rs. 5,000, while motorcycle riders will face a Rs. 2,000 penalty for similar violations.
The CTO also warned that dangerous practices such as triple riding will not be tolerated and strict action will be taken against offenders.
Explaining licensing regulations, he said that commercial vehicles cannot be operated with car or motorcycle licenses. A Public Service Vehicle (PSV) license is mandatory for buses, wagons, and other public transport vehicles. Similarly, drivers of trucks, trailers, and heavy transport must hold a Heavy Transport Vehicle (HTV) license.
Shirazi added that all driving license offices across the city will remain open even on holidays to facilitate citizens. Special checking points have also been set up outside these offices to identify individuals driving without valid licenses.
To further assist the public, online services for learner permits, duplicate licenses, and renewals are also available, making the process more accessible.
He also highlighted that Lahore currently has 11 driving testing centers, two mobile licensing vans, and 20 facilitation centers operating across the city.
Reiterating the department’s strict stance, the CTO warned that underage and unlicensed driving will not be tolerated under any circumstances. He directed all circle officers to personally supervise the ongoing Lahore traffic police crackdown to ensure strict implementation of traffic laws and improve road safety across the city.
