The federal government has announced a fresh reduction in petrol and diesel prices, providing some relief to consumers across Pakistan. The revised fuel rates were issued on Monday through the latest notification released by the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA).
According to the new price list, the price of petrol has been reduced by Rs. 4.08 per litre. The new petrol rate now stands at Rs. 331.95 per litre, compared to the previous price of Rs. 336.03 per litre.
High-speed diesel has also become cheaper. Its price has been reduced by Rs. 2.45 per litre, bringing the new rate to Rs. 389.93 per litre from the earlier price of Rs. 392.38 per litre.
The latest revision follows another reduction announced on Friday. During that update, petrol prices were lowered by Rs. 0.12 per litre, while diesel prices were reduced by Rs. 0.66 per litre. The latest announcement provides additional relief after several weeks of continuous price changes.
The revised petrol and diesel prices came into effect immediately. Motorists and transport operators are expected to benefit from the lower fuel costs, although overall fuel prices remain significantly higher than they were before the daily pricing mechanism was introduced.
Pakistan recently shifted to a system of daily fuel price revisions. Under this mechanism, fuel rates are adjusted more frequently to reflect changes in international oil prices and other market factors.
Since the daily pricing system began in mid-July, fuel prices have changed almost every day. According to the latest data, petrol was priced at Rs. 310.71 per litre before the new pricing mechanism started. Since then, prices increased steadily before the latest reductions were announced.
The daily record shows that petrol rose to Rs. 316.15 per litre on July 18. It continued climbing over the following days, reaching Rs. 335.18 per litre by July 24. Prices then experienced several minor increases and decreases before Monday’s latest cut.
Diesel prices followed a similar trend. Before daily revisions, diesel was available at Rs. 323.30 per litre. Successive increases pushed the price above Rs. 390 per litre before the latest reduction brought it down to Rs. 389.93 per litre.
Despite the recent cuts, the overall increase since the introduction of daily pricing remains substantial. Petrol has become Rs. 25.32 per litre more expensive than it was before daily revisions began. Diesel has increased by Rs. 69.05 per litre during the same period.
The government reviews petrol and diesel prices based on recommendations from OGRA and changes in international oil markets. These adjustments are intended to keep domestic fuel prices aligned with global market conditions.
Fuel prices directly affect transportation, logistics, agriculture, and industrial activity across Pakistan. Changes in fuel rates also influence the prices of many goods and services, making them important for both businesses and consumers.
