Authorities have made special arrangements for thousands of Majalis and hundreds of mourning processions as part of a coordinated security strategy.
According to officials, a total of 3,868 Majalis and 458 mourning processions will be held in Lahore during Muharram. The security classification includes 457 A-category, 2,610 B-category, and 801 C-category Majalis, while processions are also categorized for enhanced protection and monitoring.
City Police Chief Bilal Siddique Kamyana announced the plan during a press conference at Police Lines Qila Gujjar Singh. Senior officers including Zeeshan Raza and Faisal Kamran were also present. He said a three-tier security system has been implemented to ensure full coverage during the sensitive religious period.
Authorities revealed that more than 100,000 security duties will be performed by police personnel on a rotational basis throughout Muharram. In addition, nine control rooms have been established to monitor activities in real time and respond quickly to any emergency situation.
To improve coordination, real-time surveillance will be conducted through the Punjab Safe Cities Authority along with district control rooms operating 24/7. Special traffic management plans have also been introduced to facilitate both mourners and general commuters across the city.
The CCPO also highlighted a significant improvement in law and order, stating that serious crime in Lahore has declined by 55 percent compared to the previous year. He added that major recovery operations have returned property worth over Rs8 billion to citizens since 2023, while over 100,000 proclaimed offenders have been arrested.
Officials further confirmed the use of QR code systems and panic buttons at key locations to strengthen emergency response. A strict zero-tolerance policy will be enforced regarding route violations and unauthorized loudspeaker use during Muharram processions.
