SRK returned to the big screen after a four-year absence, and his fans seem to be welcoming him back with open arms.
Pathaan set a new record in Hindi cinema on its first day of screening on Wednesday, collecting between INR 530m and 550m, according to Bollywood Hungama. It has become both the biggest non-holiday film of all time and the biggest opener in Hindi cinema history.
According to Bollywood Hungama, the three major cinema chains in the country, PVR, Inox, and Cinepolis, contributed a total of INR 265 million, accounting for 50% of total business. Pathaan is also doing well on single screens, and business is expected to pick up again today, the second day of the film’s release, because of the Republic Day holiday. Pathaan will become the first film in Hindi cinema history to make INR 1 billion in two days if it collects an equal or greater amount than it did on its first day.
According to Bollywood Hungama, audience feedback has been “extremely positive,” and critic reviews have been similarly positive.
Pathaan’s Hindi version earned between INR 500 and 520 million, while the Tamil and Telugu dubbed versions earned an additional INR 30 million, bringing the total to around INR 550 million. The numbers are expected to double today, according to the media.
The film also stars John Abraham, Dimple Kapadia, Ashutosh Rana, Siddhant Ghegadmal, and Salman Khan makes a brief appearance. Pathaan is an Indian spy thriller starring SRK as a spy who becomes the leader of a group of mercenaries on a mission to attack his homeland.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
