Punjab Announces Rs23 Billion Development Package for Katcha Areas

The government of Punjab has announced a major Rs23 billion development package for Katcha regions. The plan focuses on improving infrastructure, security, and social conditions in these areas.

Officials said the initiative aims to bring long-term stability and development. The Punjab government described it as a key step toward integrating remote regions into the mainstream economy.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif said the plan follows successful security operations in the region. She added that the area is now ready for development projects.

A major feature of the Punjab development plan is land distribution. Around 14,500 acres of state land will be given to local farmers. This will be done under the “Apna Khet, Apna Rozgar” program.

The goal is to support self-reliance and improve agricultural output. Authorities believe this step will strengthen rural livelihoods in Punjab.

The plan also includes expansion of public services. These services will include registration offices, mobile health units, veterinary hospitals, and laboratories. Transport facilities will also be improved in the region.

The Rs23 billion package has been divided into different sectors. Rs7.1 billion is allocated for law and order. Rs13.9 billion will be used for social infrastructure. Rs1.7 billion is reserved for other development needs.

The Punjab government has also announced major infrastructure projects. These include construction of over 100 kilometers of soil roads. Several new road projects will also be completed.

Education is another key focus. The plan includes upgrades to 65 schools. Sixteen new schools will also be built. Two new girls’ colleges are part of the project.

Students in Punjab will also benefit from scholarships. Around 300 merit-based scholarships will be awarded. Free laptops will also be distributed under a special program.

Security improvements are also included in the plan. Modern surveillance systems and drone monitoring will be introduced. Police stations and checkpoints will be upgraded with advanced technology.

The Punjab Safe Cities Authority will expand its monitoring network. This will help improve real-time security coverage in the region.

Punjab Information Minister Azma Bokhari said the project aims to eliminate unsafe zones. She said the Punjab government is focused on long-term development and stability.
