Karachi Reports Another Confirmed Case of MPox

Health authorities have confirmed another case of mpox in Karachi, increasing the total number of reported infections in the city to 11.

According to hospital officials, a 35-year-old man from Mohabbat Nagar in the Landhi area was diagnosed with the viral disease and is currently undergoing treatment at the isolation ward of the Sindh Infectious Diseases Hospital (SIDH) NIPA.

The patient reportedly visited the hospital after experiencing symptoms commonly linked to mpox. Following a medical examination, doctors conducted laboratory testing, and a PCR test later confirmed the infection. Officials noted that the patient had not recently traveled abroad or to any known high-risk area.

With the addition of this latest case, the number of mpox patients treated at SIDH NIPA has reached eight. Health authorities continue to monitor the situation closely and are taking necessary measures to prevent further spread of the virus.

The new case comes shortly after another infection was confirmed in a 40-year-old resident of Gulistan-e-Johar. Officials said that patient also had no recent travel history. After developing symptoms, he underwent testing and was admitted to the hospital’s isolation facility following a positive PCR result.

Medical teams are currently monitoring both patients and tracing possible contacts where necessary. Authorities have advised the public to remain vigilant and seek immediate medical attention if they experience symptoms associated with mpox.

Mpox is a viral illness that can spread through close physical contact with an infected individual, contaminated objects, or infected animals. Common signs of the disease include fever, swollen lymph nodes, muscle aches, fatigue, and a distinctive skin rash.

The virus gained international attention during the global outbreak of 2022 and 2023. Since then, health agencies around the world have continued surveillance efforts to detect and manage new cases. Local health officials have urged residents to follow preventive measures and report any suspected symptoms to healthcare providers promptly.
