Karachi has established a dedicated police station to combat the growing problem of water theft, illegal connections, and the hydrant mafia in the city.
The special police station was formally inaugurated by Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab, who said the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC) has adopted a zero-tolerance policy against water theft and other illegal activities affecting the city’s water supply.
According to the mayor, this is the first police station in Karachi’s history to be established under the Water Corporation Act, giving it full legal authority to investigate and take action against offenders.
Under the new system, all cases related to water theft, illegal water connections, and unauthorized hydrants will be registered at the dedicated police station. Officials say the move will help speed up investigations, improve case registration, and strengthen legal enforcement.
Wahab said authorities are committed to taking strict action against individuals and groups involved in the illegal extraction, distribution, and misuse of government water resources.
The initiative is part of broader efforts to protect Karachi’s water supply, improve governance, and curb losses caused by illegal water networks operating across the city.
