The All Pakistan Goods Transport Alliance has announced an indefinite strike starting today, August 8, 2026. The transporters are protesting several issues affecting the goods transportation sector.
Alliance President Malik Shehzad Awan confirmed the strike and said the federal government has invited transport representatives for talks on Monday. A committee has also been formed to represent the transporters during the negotiations.
Awan said the strike will continue until the government meeting takes place. After the meeting, the alliance will decide its next course of action. The transporters have not announced a specific end date for the strike.
The alliance has raised concerns over the increasing prices of petrol and diesel. Transporters say higher fuel costs have increased their operating expenses and created additional financial pressure on the sector.
The daily determination of petroleum prices is another major issue behind the strike. Transporters have opposed frequent fuel price changes, saying they make it difficult for businesses to plan their transportation costs.
The alliance is also protesting the imposition of a seven percent withholding tax on the transport sector. Representatives have called for the government to address their concerns through negotiations.
Earlier talks between the goods transport alliance and authorities at the commissioner’s office failed to produce an agreement. The lack of progress led the alliance to proceed with the strike.
The strike could affect the movement of goods across the country if it continues for an extended period. Goods transporters play an important role in supplying food, fuel, industrial materials, and other essential products between cities.
The government’s meeting with the transport alliance on Monday could determine whether the strike ends or continues. Transport representatives are expected to present their demands and seek relief on fuel prices, petroleum pricing, and taxation.
