ISLAMABAD – An Iranian delegation headed by Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi is expected to reach Islamabad tonight for what may turn into a crucial second round of US–Iran peace negotiations.
The capital is already under tight security, with increased logistical arrangements in place as a US security and support team remains active in Islamabad. Preparations for a possible high-level diplomatic engagement are in full swing, and the presence of foreign technical and security staff has fueled speculation that a significant breakthrough could be near.
There is rising optimism that the ongoing US–Iran talks, being facilitated in the Pakistani capital, may achieve meaningful progress, making the Iranian delegation’s arrival particularly important.
Earlier, Araghchi held a telephone conversation with Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar. They discussed the evolving regional situation, the delicate ceasefire conditions, and continued diplomatic efforts linked to US–Iran negotiations.
According to Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry, Dar emphasized the importance of sustained dialogue to resolve key issues and ensure regional stability. Araghchi, in response, appreciated Pakistan’s consistent and constructive role in facilitating the talks, highlighting Islamabad’s growing diplomatic relevance.
Separately, Iranian state media reported that Araghchi also spoke with Pakistan’s Army Chief Asim Munir. However, Pakistani authorities have not confirmed this claim, and no independent verification is available.
Meanwhile, reports indicate that at least nine US aircraft landed in Islamabad earlier this week, bringing communication equipment, vehicles, security staff, and technical teams, underscoring the scale and seriousness of preparations for the anticipated discussions
