The National Highway Authority (NHA) has issued an urgent travel advisory after severe weather and a road accident disrupted traffic on two major highway routes connecting Pakistan’s northern areas.
According to the NHA, flash floods at Thak have forced the complete closure of the Babusar Highway at Zero Point, making the route unsafe for all types of traffic. Authorities said the highway will remain closed until floodwaters recede and the road is declared safe.
Passengers and tourists planning to travel to northern Pakistan have been advised to avoid the Babusar Highway and use the Karakoram Highway (KKH) as an alternative route.
However, traffic on the Karakoram Highway has also been temporarily suspended near Shang Nullah, close to Gonar Farm, after a heavy freight truck overturned and blocked the roadway.
To prevent further congestion, officials have stopped additional vehicles from entering the affected section at the Gonar Farm check post. Long queues of vehicles have formed on both sides of the highway as authorities work to clear the obstruction.
The NHA said its teams, along with the Diamer district administration, rescue personnel, and heavy machinery, have been deployed to remove the overturned truck and restore traffic at the earliest.
Authorities have urged commuters to avoid unnecessary travel until normal traffic flow is restored. Travelers have also been advised to follow official updates and instructions issued by the local administration before setting out for the northern regions.
