Federal Cabinet Members’ Salaries Increased by Up to 188%
The salaries and allowances of federal cabinet members have been significantly increased, with federal ministers, ministers of state, and advisers receiving raises of up to 188%.
Salary Hike Approved Through Circulation
Sources confirmed on Thursday that federal ministers approved a salary increase for themselves and ministers of state via circulation. This was enabled by an amendment to the Federal Ministers and Ministers of State (Allowances and Salaries) Act, 1975.

Following the amendment’s approval, the revised salaries are:
- Federal ministers: Rs. 519,000 (previously Rs. 200,000) → 159% increase
- Ministers of state: Rs. 519,000 (previously Rs. 180,000) → 188% increase
- Advisers: Rs. 519,000
The new salary structure takes immediate effect.
Earlier Pay Raise for MNAs and Senators
Earlier this year, in January, the Finance Committee approved a salary increase for MNAs and senators, setting their monthly pay at Rs. 519,000, effective from January 1, 2025.
Speaker and Deputy Speaker Salaries Remain Unchanged
Despite these increases, the salaries of the Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly remain unchanged, as the Finance Committee does not have the authority to revise their pay. They will continue to receive Rs. 218,000 per month, as confirmed by the Speaker’s Office.
Proposal to Align Lawmakers’ Salaries with Federal Secretaries
A proposal was submitted to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, suggesting that lawmakers’ salaries and benefits be aligned with those of a federal secretary. The National Assembly’s Finance Committee approved the proposal, after which Speaker Ayaz Sadiq forwarded it to the Prime Minister. The proposal recommended setting the monthly salary and allowances of MNAs and senators at Rs. 519,000.
