In an audio clip that circulated on social media on Sunday, designer Khadija Shah announced that she is turning herself in to police as law enforcement tightens its grip on suspects involved in vandalism across the country following the arrest of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan on May 9.

The acclaimed designer, who is the daughter of former finance minister Salman Shah and the founder of the fashion label Elan, is said to be one of numerous suspects in the attack on the Jinnah House, which serves as the residence of the Lahore Corps Commander.

In the audio clip, Khadija declares her desire to surrender to authorities for the bogus charges levied against her.

In the video, Khadija explains her decision, emphasising the extreme hardship she has endured over the last five days and expressing her inability to bear the circumstances any longer.

She stated that the actions performed against her family are excruciating. “They broke into my house at midnight and kidnapped my father, brother, and husband,” she claimed.

The designer claimed that her father, a diabetic, and brother are currently imprisoned, and that officials also want to take her sister and sister-in-law.

The fashion designer, who is also the daughter-in-law of former Chief of Army Staff Gen (retd) Asif Nawaz Janjua, stated that she would never want her family to suffer as a result of her actions. “I have not committed any crimes, and I am a Pakistani who believes in democracy and the Constitution.”

According to police officials, Shah is a main suspect in the Jinnah House attack. When the police arrived during an earlier raid, Shah departed the property by the back gate, which was also seen on CCTV.

On Sunday, numerous people shared video clips previously shared by the designer in which she could be seen with other demonstrators near Jinnah House in Lahore.

The designer’s personal social media profiles appear to be disabled.

It was unclear whether Khadija Shah had been apprehended by authorities. When reached by The Express Tribune, police officials refused to confirm or deny allegations of the designer’s detention.

Following the arrest of former Prime Minister Imran Khan on May 9 — the day the Pakistan Army now refers to as a “Black Day” — PTI supporters attacked and damaged many public and private properties, including the historic Corps’ Commander’s House — originally known as Jinnah House and which once served as the residence of the nation’s founding father, Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah — in Lahore.

Protesters burned down all of the rooms, halls, drawing rooms, living rooms, walls, drapes, doors, wooden ceilings and even the floor in the ancient building, according to photos and videos.

A few furlongs distant from the Corps’ Commander House, the 130-year-old Military Engineering Services building was also set on fire, destroying precious records, furniture and vehicles.

Following Imran’s detention, numerous party leaders were hauled into custody, including Fawad Chaudhry, Asad Umar, Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Dr Yasmeen Rashid, Shireen Mazari, Maleeka Bukhari, and Fayyazul Hassan Chauhan.
