FBR Suspends 6 Officials over Sugar Mills Monitoring Absence

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has taken strict action by suspending six officials who were found absent from their monitoring duties at sugar mills, an official statement confirmed. These officials had been assigned under Section 40B of the Sales Tax Act, 1990, and were responsible for ensuring proper oversight and uninterrupted monitoring of sugar production processes across various mills.

Their absence came to light during routine inspections and verification carried out by the Large Tax Office (LTO) in Lahore, which closely supervises the performance and attendance of monitoring teams operating under its jurisdiction. The routine checks revealed that the six officials failed to perform their designated duties, raising concerns about compliance and accountability within the department.

The LTO Lahore, acting on the findings, has recommended disciplinary action against the suspended personnel. The recommended proceedings will follow the rules and procedures outlined under existing regulations, ensuring that the matter is addressed in accordance with official guidelines. This move highlights FBR’s commitment to maintaining transparency and integrity in monitoring operations, particularly in critical sectors such as sugar production, which are closely linked to taxation and revenue collection.

FBR officials emphasized that strict enforcement measures are necessary to deter negligence and ensure that monitoring teams fulfill their responsibilities efficiently. By suspending the six officials, the board aims to reinforce accountability among staff members and maintain the credibility of regulatory oversight in the sugar industry.

The suspension also serves as a warning to other officials regarding the importance of adhering to assigned duties and remaining vigilant in the supervision of production processes. The FBR continues to monitor the situation and take appropriate steps to ensure compliance, safeguarding both revenue interests and the integrity of regulatory operations.
