Islamabad Announces Traffic Plan for New Year Celebrations

The Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) has announced a comprehensive traffic management plan to regulate the movement of heavy vehicles in the federal capital during the upcoming New Year celebrations, aiming to minimize congestion and ensure smooth traffic flow.

According to ITP officials, restrictions on heavy traffic entering Islamabad from other cities will be enforced from December 27 to December 30. During these days, trucks and other heavy vehicles will not be allowed to enter the city between 3:00 pm and 8:00 pm. On December 31, the restrictions will be further tightened, with heavy vehicles barred from entering Islamabad from 3:00 pm until midnight.

Authorities stated that these measures are being implemented to facilitate uninterrupted traffic movement as the city prepares for New Year festivities, which are expected to draw large crowds and increase road usage. The police emphasized that regulating heavy traffic during peak hours would help reduce congestion and improve road safety for commuters.

Islamabad has been experiencing traffic challenges in recent days due to multiple ongoing development projects across the city. Road construction, repair work, and diversions have led to frequent traffic jams, causing inconvenience for residents and commuters. In response, the ITP has been taking additional steps to manage traffic more effectively during high-traffic periods.

Earlier, the Islamabad Traffic Police had also announced a temporary traffic diversion plan in connection with a special programme. The diversion was scheduled from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm on Friday and affected key routes, including the Islamabad Expressway and Murree Road/Club Road. During this time, temporary diversions were placed at several points to manage traffic flow.
