Moroccan football club ASFAR has been handed a two-game fan ban and a $100,000 fine following incidents of crowd disorder during a recent match. The disciplinary action was announced by the Moroccan Royal Football Federation (FRMF) after reviewing reports of unsafe behaviour by supporters, including throwing objects onto the pitch and verbal abuse directed at players and officials.
The measures mean that ASFAR’s home stadium will be closed to fans for the next two league matches, significantly affecting the club’s matchday atmosphere and revenue. Officials stressed that the decision aims to ensure safety for players, referees, and fans, while sending a strong message against unruly behaviour in stadiums.
The fine of $100,000 has been imposed on the club itself, highlighting the responsibility of football clubs to manage and control their supporters. FRMF noted that such penalties are in line with international football regulations designed to maintain discipline and safety at sporting events.
ASFAR’s management acknowledged the ruling and stated that they would cooperate fully to prevent similar incidents in the future. The club also indicated plans to implement stricter stadium security measures, including increased stewarding and surveillance, to ensure compliance with federation guidelines.
This decision comes amid growing concerns over fan behaviour in Moroccan football, where several clubs have faced sanctions in recent seasons for crowd-related incidents. Authorities have emphasised that maintaining order and safety in stadiums is a priority and that violations will be dealt with firmly.
Sports analysts say the punishment could impact ASFAR’s performance, as playing in empty stadiums removes home advantage, but they also note that enforcing fan discipline is essential for long-term development of the league and protecting players.
