PM Shehbaz Sharif addressed a Christmas ceremony at the Prime Minister’s House, paying tribute to Hazrat Isa (AS) and honoring Pakistan’s Christian community. He highlighted the government’s commitment to equality, justice, and protection of minority rights.
The prime minister said the gathering celebrated the birth of Hazrat Isa, describing it as a blessing for all humanity. He recalled the Quranic mention of Hazrat Maryam (AS) and emphasized Hazrat Isa’s role in standing against oppression and promoting compassion and guidance.
Historic Role of Minorities
PM Shehbaz acknowledged the historic contributions of minorities, especially Christians, in Pakistan’s development. He praised their role in education, defense, and public service. The prime minister also saluted their sacrifices and ongoing efforts for the nation.
He highlighted the courage of Pakistan’s armed forces, referring to their decisive response in May under field marshal leadership. He also honored Christian hero Cecil Chaudhry and soldier Haroon William for their bravery and sacrifices in defending Pakistan.
Commitment to Equality and Religious Freedom
PM Shehbaz recalled the founding principles of Pakistan. He noted that Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah guaranteed minorities full legal rights and freedom to worship without fear. The prime minister emphasized that equality and religious freedom remain key guiding principles of the state.
He also highlighted that during PML-N governments, Nawaz Sharif consistently protected minority rights and promoted interfaith harmony. PM Shehbaz urged society to follow Islamic teachings of kindness, tolerance, and love for all humanity.
Government Support for Minorities
PM Shehbaz assured minorities that the government will stand with them and use the full force of law against any atrocities. He described the birth of Hazrat Isa as a source of joy for all Pakistanis.
On the occasion, both PM Shehbaz and President Asif Ali Zardari extended Christmas greetings to the Christian community. Zardari highlighted the festival’s message of peace, compassion, and unity.
