The government has confirmed that Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) will maintain its national identity following its privatization. Officials assured that the airline’s name and iconic logo will remain unchanged.
Authorities said that even under new ownership, PIA’s historical and symbolic significance will be preserved. Administrative and financial reforms will be allowed, but the airline’s brand and identity will stay intact.
On Tuesday, the Arif Habib Consortium officially acquired 75 percent of PIA’s shares in the privatization bid, offering Rs135 billion. This bid surpassed the Lucky Consortium, whose offer stood at Rs134 billion.
Under the deal, the government will receive Rs10.2 billion in cash immediately. Officials said this privatization is the first major large-scale sale in Pakistan in two decades. It is expected to save taxpayers around Rs35 billion annually in subsidies and operational costs.
The consortium also announced that Fauji Fertilizer Company will become a strategic partner in the PIA acquisition. Representatives said the partnership will positively contribute to the airline’s revival and operational efficiency.
The Arif Habib Group plans to invest Rs125 billion in PIA over the next year. This investment will modernize operations and expand the fleet from 18 to 62 aircraft. Officials emphasized improving passenger services and creating better opportunities for employees.
“Enhancing the passenger experience and providing a strong operational platform for employees will be our top priorities,” said the Arif Habib Group.
Authorities added that the partnership will accelerate PIA’s restructuring. The goal is to restore the airline as Pakistan’s flagship carrier while ensuring safety, reliability, and a modernized travel experience.
