Jamaat-e-Islami Sit-in Protest Targets E-Challan System, Infrastructure Fails In Karachi

Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) stages sit-ins in Karachi today against e-challans and deteriorating road conditions, as protesters demand urgent government action to curb heavy traffic accidents and flawed enforcement systems. The sit-in protests began this afternoon at key intersections including Numaish Chowrangi, drawing citizens and party activists amid mounting frustration over road safety and traffic governance.

JI Karachi chief Munam Zafar Khan said citizens are fed up with what he described as “unjust e-challans” and deadly traffic conditions that disproportionately penalise motorists while failing to address fatal heavy-vehicle accidents. Protesters chanted slogans calling for improved infrastructure and an end to what they call punitive enforcement tactics by authorities.

The sit-ins, staged at major points across the city, including Star Gate on Shahrah-e-Faisal, MA Jinnah Road, University Road, and Korangi Crossing, have caused significant traffic disruptions and long jams across central and residential districts. JI leaders urged citizens to join the ongoing demonstrations to demand accountability and safer streets.

Public criticism of the e-challan system in Karachi has intensified in recent weeks, with political parties and civil advocates arguing that deploying automated fines without first upgrading roads, signage, and traffic systems is unfair to drivers. In fact, recent petitions filed in Sindh High Court claim the e-challan regime heavily fines residents without ensuring basic infrastructure improvements are in place.

In related coverage, detailed reporting explains the broader campaign plan and goals of these protests, including calls to “give rights to Karachi” and challenge systemic neglect of the city’s infrastructure and governance issues.

As evening falls, Karachi e-challans protest sit-ins continue to draw wide participation, with demonstrators vowing to sustain pressure on authorities until improvements in road safety, traffic management, and infrastructure are prioritised.
