Pakistan Govt to Relaunch BEEP App Soon for Secure Official Communication. The federal government of Pakistan is preparing to relaunch the BEEP app as a homegrown secure communication platform to strengthen official information exchange across ministries and departments, officials have confirmed.
In a briefing to the National Assembly Standing Committee on Information Technology and Telecom this week, the National Information Technology Board (NITB) said the BEEP app, initially introduced in 2023, will be reintroduced with enhanced security features, including end‑to‑end encryption for text and video communications. The rollout is expected to begin by mid‑2026, starting with federal ministries before expanding to other institutions.
Officials stressed that BEEP’s servers are based in Pakistan, aiming to keep sensitive government data within national borders and reduce reliance on foreign platforms like WhatsApp, whose servers remain overseas. This shift is seen as crucial for secure and confidential communication in official workflows, particularly given rising digital threats worldwide.
Development sources say the app will be integrated with the federal e‑Office system, enabling seamless document sharing, encrypted messaging, and improved workflow coordination among officials. The move aligns with previous efforts by the Ministry of IT to reduce dependency on global messaging services and enhance cybersecurity within government networks.
Experts note that secure digital communication has become a priority in Pakistan, especially amid increasing concerns over fake apps and cyber threats targeting citizens. For instance, the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) recently warned the public about fraudulent trading apps, highlighting the broader risks of digital platforms.
While some technology analysts have previously pointed to delays in BEEP’s deployment due to security vetting, the latest updates suggest authorities are finalizing clearances and aiming for an official launch soon. The relaunch of the BEEP app could mark a significant step in securing official communications within Pakistan’s public sector.
