Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Nawaz Sharif has assured party officials that all candidates for Azad Jammu & Kashmir (AJK) and Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) elections will be selected based on merit.
Addressing a gathering of party leaders, the three-time prime minister emphasized the importance of fair ticket distribution. “We are looking to distribute the party tickets on merit. Every candidate’s reservation will be addressed. All party members must work together to ensure the victories of our candidates,” he said.
Proper Allocation of Funds
Nawaz Sharif also highlighted the need for proper use of funds in AJK and GB. He said that money should be allocated to both regions according to their rights. He criticized past spending, noting that even when funds are released by the federal government, they are often not utilized effectively.
“It is important to spend the funds in the right way, proportional to the allocation,” he added.
Focus on Development and NFC Award
The PML-N president pointed out that the National Finance Commission (NFC) award still falls short compared to past investments. He urged that funds for development in AJK and GB must be allocated fairly.
Nawaz Sharif said he would request Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to ensure that financial allocations for both regions are in line with the NFC Award. This step, he said, will support equitable development and strengthen public trust.
Strengthening Party Strategy
The PML-N leadership is focusing on strengthening local support and ensuring candidates have the resources to win. Emphasizing merit-based ticket distribution is part of a broader strategy to maintain unity within the party and secure electoral victories.
