FO Denies Arrest of Pakistani Immigrant in US Over ‘Attack Plot’

Pakistan’s Foreign Office firmly rejected international media reports claiming that a Pakistani immigrant was arrested in the United States over an alleged attack plot. The FO clarified that the suspect, reportedly involved in planning violence at a U.S. university campus, is not a Pakistani national as widely claimed. Officials stated that the misreporting has created unnecessary confusion.

According to the FO, initial foreign media coverage incorrectly attributed Pakistani nationality to the suspect without verification. The spokesperson emphasised that early reports often contain inaccuracies, and responsible journalism requires confirmation before linking such incidents to any country. Pakistan has requested correction from media outlets that published the misleading information.

The FO added that Pakistan maintains close communication with U.S. authorities on matters involving its citizens. After checking records and engaging with relevant departments, the Foreign Office confirmed that the individual is not linked to Pakistan. Officials stated that premature claims have the potential to damage Pakistan’s reputation abroad.

Reports surrounding the alleged plot circulated quickly across international platforms, generating concern among the Pakistani diaspora. The FO reassured the public that there is no evidence of a Pakistani citizen’s involvement in the case. It urged media organisations to avoid attributing nationalities without proper verification, especially in sensitive security cases.

Pakistan’s Foreign Office further highlighted that misinformation of this nature can negatively impact diplomatic ties and create unnecessary tension. Officials stressed that accuracy should be prioritised in all reporting involving cross-border security issues, as mislabeling individuals contributes to unfair stereotyping of entire communities.

The FO said it would continue monitoring developments in the United States and engage with authorities if any further clarification is required. For now, the government maintains that the suspect has no connection to Pakistan, and any reports suggesting otherwise are factually incorrect and misleading.
