The Punjab government has introduced another strict traffic crackdown, rolling out a new ordinance that imposes some of the highest penalties the province has ever seen. Authorities say these rules mark a major shift in traffic enforcement and are aimed at improving road discipline.
Speeding is no longer treated as a minor violation, as both motorcyclists and car drivers will now face heavy fines. Motorbikes and three-wheelers will also face increased penalties for breaking traffic signals or other traffic safety rules.
Running a red light has become particularly expensive, with every type of vehicle facing different fines depending on size and category. Larger and high-capacity vehicles will be charged the highest amounts under these new regulations.
Heavy fines have also been announced for overloading. Three-wheelers, cars and big commercial vehicles will all be charged more severely if found carrying passengers or cargo beyond capacity.
Pollution-causing and smoke-emitting vehicles are also being targeted, with new penalties meant to discourage harmful emissions. Officials say such vehicles pose a major health risk and needed strict regulation.
Transporters have called the new policy harsh, but the government insists that the updated law is essential to reduce accidents, prevent violations and ensure safer roads across Punjab.
