The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a forecast predicting cold and dry weather for a large part of the country over the coming days.
According to the latest PMD outlook, continental air is dominating most regions, leading to mostly clear skies and low humidity, particularly in the plains. Hilly areas, such as Murree, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Kashmir, are expected to experience very cold conditions during the night and early morning hours.
In Punjab, the dry conditions may worsen smog levels, especially in the eastern districts, as stable air masses trap pollutants. Residents are being advised to take precautionary measures, particularly those with respiratory problems.
Morning temperatures recorded in major cities reflect the chill: Islamabad was around 7 °C, Lahore about 12 °C, Quetta dropped to –1 °C, and Gilgit recorded –2 °C.
Meanwhile, PMD warns that shallow fog may form in patches over parts of Punjab during early mornings and nights, reducing visibility.
Experts suggest that while dry weather reduces the risk of rain, it may also aggravate skin dryness. Dermatologists warn that low humidity and cold air strip moisture from the skin, increasing the risk of irritations.
PMD says the current dry spell could persist for several more days, making winter skincare and pollution awareness especially critical.
