The United Arab Emirates and Oman have officially launched a new cross-border rail freight service, marking a major milestone in regional connectivity and economic cooperation. The route will connect Abu Dhabi with Sohar, creating a direct and efficient logistics corridor between the two Gulf nations.
According to details shared during the Global Rail 2025 exhibition in Abu Dhabi, the service will operate seven trains per week, each capable of carrying 276 containers. This means the system could move around 193,000 containers annually, significantly easing pressure on road transport and reducing carbon emissions.
The partnership involves Noatum Logistics, part of AD Ports Group, and Hafeet Rail, which is developing the UAE-Oman rail network. The service will transport various goods, including food, industrial materials, pharmaceuticals, and manufactured products, offering faster, safer, and more sustainable trade options.
Officials say this new initiative will strengthen supply chains, support economic diversification, and enhance trade integration within the Gulf region. It also aligns with both nations’ long-term goals of building greener and more efficient transport infrastructure.
With both governments focusing on modern logistics and sustainability, the UAE-Oman railway is expected to become a key part of future regional trade and development.
