Sheikh Saleh bin Fawzan Named Saudi Arabia’s New Grand Mufti

Saudi Arabia has appointed Sheikh Dr. Saleh bin Fawzan bin Abdullah Al-Fawzan as the new Grand Mufti of the Kingdom.

The appointment was made following a review of relevant laws and royal decrees and upon the recommendation of Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud. The order was issued by Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.

Sheikh Saleh will also serve as Chairman of the Council of Senior Scholars and President of the General Presidency of Scholarly Research and Ifta, holding the rank of minister.

This decision follows the passing of the former Grand Mufti, Sheikh Abdulaziz bin Abdullah bin Mohammed Al Al-Sheikh. King Salman directed that funeral prayers in absentia be held at the Grand Mosque in Makkah, the Prophet’s Mosque in Madinah, and mosques across the Kingdom.

The Royal Court expressed deep sorrow over his death, noting that both King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman extended their condolences to his family, the Saudi nation, and the wider Islamic community.
