The top United Nations court has ruled that Israel must take immediate steps to allow humanitarian aid into Gaza and ensure that Palestinians receive essential supplies. The International Court of Justice (ICJ) issued the directive amid growing concerns over the worsening humanitarian crisis in the enclave.
The court stated that Israel is obligated under international law to provide food, water, medicine, and other basic necessities to civilians affected by the conflict. It also urged Israel to facilitate unrestricted access for humanitarian organizations working to assist Gaza’s population.
This ruling follows reports from aid agencies describing severe shortages of essential goods and medical supplies in the war-torn territory. The ICJ emphasized that denying aid could further violate human rights and international humanitarian principles.
Israel has not yet responded to the latest order. However, it maintains that it allows aid through monitored border crossings while prioritizing security concerns.
Humanitarian groups have welcomed the court’s decision, calling it a critical step toward addressing the suffering of Gaza’s civilians and urging swift compliance.
