DI KHAN – A group of terrorists launched an armed assault on a police training center in Dera Ismail Khan (DI Khan) late Wednesday night, triggering a heavy exchange of fire between the attackers and security forces.
According to initial reports, the militants opened fire from multiple directions, attempting to breach the facility’s perimeter. The quick response of the police and security personnel prevented a major tragedy, as the attackers failed to enter the main compound.
Authorities confirmed that one police official embraced martyrdom while several others sustained injuries during the clash. The terrorists reportedly used automatic weapons and grenades in the assault, causing panic in nearby areas.
Following the attack, additional police units and military reinforcements arrived at the scene. The surrounding area was cordoned off as search operations began to locate and neutralize the fleeing assailants.
Officials said the situation was brought under control after several hours of intense firing. The injured officers were shifted to a nearby hospital where they are receiving treatment. Residents reported hearing gunfire and explosions from a distance throughout the night.
Law enforcement agencies believe the attackers were part of a militant network operating in the tribal belt bordering Afghanistan. Investigations are underway to determine the group’s links and possible facilitators inside the region.
This attack marks another attempt by terrorists to target security installations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where incidents of militancy have recently seen a rise. Authorities have vowed to hunt down those responsible and strengthen the security of all sensitive sites in DI Khan.
