England’s seasoned all-rounder Chris Woakes has retired from international cricket, closing a career that lasted nearly 14 years.
Woakes featured in 62 Tests, 122 ODIs, and 33 T20Is, taking 396 wickets and contributing valuable runs with the bat. His standout performance came with figures of 6/17 in Tests, while he also played pivotal roles in England’s 2019 ICC World Cup and 2022 T20 World Cup triumphs.
Following a shoulder injury and the ECB’s decision not to renew his central contract, Woakes chose to step away from the international stage. In his farewell message, he described playing for England as “the greatest honor of my life.”
Tributes poured in from teammates, the England and Wales Cricket Board, and fans worldwide, recognizing his consistency and match-winning contributions.
Though retiring from the international arena, Chris Woakes is expected to continue featuring in county cricket and global T20 leagues, ensuring his presence in the game even as England turns the page on one of its most reliable all-rounders.
