The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a nationwide weather advisory, warning of possible landslide incidents, flash floods, and urban flooding in several parts of Pakistan due to heavy rainfall expected between July 17 and July 24.
According to the NDMA, areas in Gilgit-Baltistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, and northeastern Balochistan are at risk of flash floods and landslide activity. The authority said heavy rain could trigger flooding in rivers, local streams, hill torrents, and mountainous regions, increasing the chances of travel disruptions and damage to infrastructure.
The NDMA stated that its National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC) is closely monitoring weather conditions and coordinating with provincial and local authorities. The center is continuously assessing potential risks and sharing timely updates with relevant departments to ensure a swift emergency response if required.
In Punjab, officials have warned of possible urban flooding in several major cities, including Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Lahore, Faisalabad, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Sialkot, Narowal, Hafizabad, and Sheikhupura, where heavy rainfall is expected during the forecast period.
The disaster management authority has advised the public to avoid unnecessary travel, particularly in areas vulnerable to landslide incidents and flash flooding. Citizens have also been urged to stay away from overflowing drains, flooded roads, riverbanks, and mountainous locations where heavy rain may create dangerous conditions.
To prepare for any emergency, the NDMA has instructed rescue agencies and local administrations to keep emergency personnel, machinery, and response teams on standby. Residents are encouraged to use the Pak NDMA Disaster Alert App for official weather updates, safety advisories, and emergency information.
Separately, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast heavy rainfall in Rawalpindi and nearby areas, prompting local authorities to declare a rain emergency. The Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) has placed all operational teams on high alert and deployed drainage machinery at key locations, including Gawalmandi and Katarian, to prevent water accumulation.
Authorities have also banned the dumping of construction waste and garbage into Nullah Lai, warning that strict legal action will be taken against violators. In addition, the Rawalpindi district administration has set up a public helpline for emergency assistance and prohibited bathing in rivers and streams during the rainy spell to reduce the risk of accidents.
