Saudi Arabia’s Grand Mufti, Sheikh Abdulaziz Al-Sheikh, passed away on Tuesday at the age of 81, the Saudi Press Agency confirmed. He had been unwell for some time.
Sheikh Abdulaziz Al-Sheikh served as the Grand Mufti of Saudi Arabia and led the Council of Senior Scholars, the Kingdom’s highest religious authority. Born in 1943, he became one of the most respected clerics in the Islamic world. His teachings and rulings significantly influenced religious practices across Saudi Arabia.
Over his decades-long career, Sheikh Abdulaziz Al-Sheikh delivered the most Hajj sermons in history, addressing millions of pilgrims in Makkah and Medina. His guidance was not only followed in Saudi Arabia but also recognized throughout the Muslim world.
The Saudi Press Agency stated that the funeral prayer for the late Grand Mufti will be held at the Imam Turki bin Abdullah Mosque in Riyadh after the Asr prayer. King Salman of Saudi Arabia has ordered absentee funeral prayers at the Grand Mosque in Makkah, Masjid-e-Nabwi in Medina, and in mosques nationwide following the Asr prayer.
