Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan has been transferred from Adiala Jail to Shifa International Hospital in Islamabad under tight security, according to reports.
The transfer took place in the early hours of Friday after authorities finalised medical and security arrangements. Federal police were placed on alert, while senior police officials reached the hospital to oversee security measures.
Imran Khan’s medical team is expected to include specialists in cardiology, general medicine and ophthalmology. Doctors at Shifa International Hospital will examine him after his arrival and assess his condition.
Medical Team to Examine Imran Khan
Members of Khan’s personal medical team had entered Adiala Jail before the transfer. His sister, Dr Uzma, and personal physician, Dr Faisal, were also present as part of his medical team.
Specialists from different medical fields are expected to carry out a detailed assessment of the PTI founder. The Shifa medical team will also examine him and provide recommendations regarding his treatment.
Tight Security Around Shifa Hospital
Security was significantly increased around Shifa International Hospital ahead of Khan’s arrival.
The federal police were placed on alert, while personnel at Police Lines Headquarters were instructed to remain ready. The inspector general of police and other senior officers also reached the hospital to review the security arrangements.
Police officials were briefed about the measures being taken to ensure security during Khan’s stay at the hospital.
Hospital Section May Become Sub-Jail
According to sources, a section of Shifa International Hospital is expected to be declared a sub-jail during Imran Khan’s stay.
The notification is reportedly expected to be issued by the Islamabad chief commissioner after consultations with the relevant authorities.
The arrangement would allow Khan to receive medical treatment while remaining under the required legal and security measures.
Aleema Khan Seen Outside Adiala Jail
Imran Khan’s sister Aleema Khan and his cousin Qasim Zaman were reportedly present outside Gate No. 5 of Adiala Jail as preparations for the transfer were being completed.
The increased activity around the jail and hospital attracted significant attention, particularly among PTI supporters and political circles.
Medical Assessment Underway
Imran Khan’s transfer to Shifa International Hospital is expected to facilitate a detailed medical evaluation by specialists.
The inclusion of cardiology, general medicine and ophthalmology specialists indicates that doctors will assess multiple aspects of his health before deciding on the next course of treatment.
The government has previously maintained that Khan is entitled to appropriate medical facilities under the law and jail manual.
Authorities have not indicated how long he will remain at the hospital. His further treatment and stay are expected to depend on the medical assessment and recommendations of the doctors.
The development marks a significant change in Imran Khan’s medical arrangements, with attention now focused on his health assessment and the treatment plan recommended by his medical team.
