The Pakistan Meteorological Department has predicted a fresh spell of monsoon rains across the country from August 23 to 27, warning of possible flash flooding and landslides in vulnerable areas. Strong currents from the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal are expected to enter the upper regions from August 22, triggering widespread rainfall.
In Punjab, showers are likely in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Faisalabad, and Sargodha, with heavy downpours forecast in Khushab, Mianwali, Layyah, Multan, and D.G. Khan. In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, cities including Peshawar, Mardan, Kohat, Bannu, and D.I. Khan may also experience heavy rainfall between August 23 and 26.
Sindh is expected to receive rains in Karachi, Sukkur, Larkana, Dadu, Jacobabad, and Jamshoro from August 23 to 25. In Balochistan, districts such as Quetta, Zhob, Barkhan, Khuzdar, and Panjgur will likely see showers during the same period. Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir may witness heavy rains and hailstorms.
The Met Office has cautioned against urban flooding in low-lying areas and landslides in hilly terrain. Authorities have advised citizens to stay alert, take precautionary measures, and avoid unnecessary travel during the rainy spell.
