India has imposed a complete ban on bilateral sporting ties with Pakistan, limiting encounters to international tournaments such as the Asia Cup. The Ministry of Sports announced that no bilateral matches will be held, either at home or neutral venues, though participation in events organized by global federations will continue.
The new policy, effective immediately, bars Indian athletes from touring Pakistan and vice versa. However, if either nation hosts an international event, participation will be reviewed separately.
Officials said the decision aligns with India’s broader foreign policy stance and reinforces its image as a reliable host nation.
Sports relations between the neighbors have long been marred by political tensions, with bilateral cricket suspended since 2012. Recent refusals by players on both sides have further deepened the divide. With this policy, future bilateral matches appear highly unlikely, leaving global tournaments as the only platform where the two rivals will face off.
