Former skipper Babar Azam’s standing has taken a hit as the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) moves toward a major revamp of central contracts in response to the team’s recent poor run.
According to reports, both Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan risk losing their Category A contracts, with hefty pay cuts and possible removal of key perks under discussion.
Once regarded as the backbone of Pakistan’s batting, Babar now finds his place under threat, while Rizwan’s decline in form has added to the uncertainty.
On the other hand, emerging names are set to gain. T20I captain Salman Ali Agha and leg-spinner Abrar Ahmed are likely to be promoted, with Faheem Ashraf, Mohammad Nawaz, Hasan Ali, and Khushdil Shah expected to stay on. Fresh faces such as Sahibzada Farhan, Hasan Nawaz, and Sufiyan Muqeem may also be awarded central contracts for the first time.
Meanwhile, Usman Khan, Haseebullah, and Khurram Shahzad are likely to miss out. The PCB is expected to release the final contract list soon.
