Health officials in Pakistan have confirmed three new polio cases, raising fresh concerns about the country’s ongoing fight against the virus.

The National Emergency Operations Center (NEOC) reported that two of the latest cases were detected in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa—one in North Waziristan and one in Lakki Marwat—while the third case was found in Umerkot, Sindh. These additions bring the total number of polio cases in 2025 to 17.

Authorities explained that the poliovirus mainly targets children with low immunity. They warned that skipping routine vaccinations increases the risk not only for unvaccinated children but also for others around them.

The NEOC urged parents to make sure their children receive polio drops during every national immunization drive. Officials stressed that repeated doses are the only way to ensure full protection against the virus.

Parents were also reminded to complete the full schedule of routine immunizations for children from birth to 15 months to protect them from polio and other preventable illnesses.
