Authorities have uncovered a disturbing illegal meat operation in the Tarnol area of the capital, where donkey meat was being processed for unsuspecting consumers in Pakistan and potentially overseas.

According to local reports, the Islamabad Food Authority (IFA) raided a farmhouse that was secretly functioning as an unlicensed slaughterhouse. During the operation, officials seized approximately 1,000 kg of prepared donkey meat and rescued 60 live donkeys kept in cramped and unsanitary conditions.

A foreign national, reportedly of Chinese origin, was apprehended during the raid and handed over to the police. Sources suggest the illicit meat trade may be part of an international network mislabeling donkey meat for distribution.

Authorities revealed that the meat was likely not just intended for local markets in Islamabad and other cities but was also being smuggled abroad. The facility had allegedly been operating for several months without any regulatory approval, posing serious risks to public health.

A full-scale investigation is now underway to trace the supply chain and locate both domestic and international buyers. Officials are urging the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious meat vendors or unhygienic practices in their communities
