Iraq’s top Shia cleric, Grand Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani, has expressed serious concern about the worsening humanitarian crisis in Gaza. He called on Arab and Muslim countries to take immediate action to help the Palestinians.
In a statement issued on Friday, Ayatollah Sistani described the situation in Gaza as “catastrophic.” He highlighted mass casualties, widespread destruction, and severe famine affecting many people in the area.
The cleric noted that after almost two years of conflict, hundreds of thousands of Palestinians have been killed or injured. He said many cities and homes have been destroyed, leaving people in Gaza to live in very harsh conditions.
Ayatollah Sistani warned that famine in Gaza has reached alarming levels. He emphasized that no group of people in the region has been spared from hunger and hardship.
He also strongly condemned the Israeli military’s actions in Gaza. Ayatollah Sistani described the conduct of Israeli forces as “monstrous brutality” and accused them of trying to uproot the Palestinian population.
The religious leader urged the international community, especially Muslim and Arab countries, to step in and help. He said it is their moral and religious duty to prevent this major humanitarian tragedy from continuing.
His statement comes at a time when global organizations, including the United Nations, have warned about worsening famine and a humanitarian disaster in Gaza. The ongoing blockade and military operations have severely limited access to food and aid.
Ayatollah Sistani’s rare and direct comments highlight the severity of the crisis. His call to action aims to mobilize Muslim nations to provide support and push for an end to the suffering in Gaza.
The situation remains critical, and health and aid agencies continue to appeal for urgent help to save lives.
